Our red wine, La Garuste 2021

To the eye: The color is an intense crimson with brilliant fuchsia highlights. The rich color evokes the density of Syrah grapes, the garnet hue of Grenache and the deep purple of Carignan.

On the nose: The aromatic bouquet resulting from the union of syrah, grenache and carignan offers a rich, nuanced olfactory symphony. Black fruit aromas, such as blackberry and blackcurrant from the syrah, blend harmoniously with the ripe red fruit notes of the grenache. Carignan, with its spicy palette, adds nuances of pepper and warm spices. The whole creates a complex bouquet in which each grape variety contributes to a seductive olfactory experience.

On the palate: Tasting reveals a balanced, powerful wine. A harmony between the robust structure of Syrah, the roundness of Grenache and the liveliness of Carignan. On the palate, tannins from the Syrah blend with the softness of Grenache tannins, creating a round, delicate texture. The lively acidity of the carignan adds real freshness. The combination of fruity and spicy aromas lingers in a harmonious taste. The blend of these three grape varieties offers a complex, evolving taste experience that seduces with its depth, balance and persistence on the palate.

Grape varieties

Syrah, a native of the Rhône Valley, is distinguished by its depth and complexity, offering wines of dense color and powerful tannic structure, with rich aromas of black fruit, blackberry and blackcurrant, enhanced by peppery and spicy notes.

Grenache, the quintessential Mediterranean grape variety, stands out for its roundness. Appreciated in the south of France. It offers complex aromas of ripe red fruit, supported by spicy and herbaceous nuances. Its generous, elegant character is contrasted with varieties such as Syrah, creating balanced, refined wines.

Carignan, an intense red grape variety, stands out for its robust tannic structure and marked acidity, offering wines of unique corpulence. Its distinctive aromas of red fruit, cherry and subtle spicy nuances give it a personality all its own.

Grape varieties such as Syrah and Grenache blend perfectly with Carignan, contributing to the uniqueness of the aromas. A true harmony between the robustness of Carignan and the distinctive aromatic expression of Syrah and Grenache.

Careful harvesting

Harvesting procedures for Syrah, Grenache and Carignan reflect a meticulous approach to ensuring optimal grape quality.
For Syrah, hand harvesting is often preferred due to the tendency of the bunches to ripen unevenly, requiring repeated passes to select ripe grapes.

Grenache harvesting, which can be brought forward slightly to maintain balanced acidity, requires particular care due to the fragility of its large bunches.

As for Carignan, its late harvest starts with fully ripe fruit, while maintaining high acidity. Preserving berry integrity, ensuring even ripening and optimizing grape quality to produce exceptional wines.

Why the PDO designation?

The Côtes-du-Rhône PDO appellation is the epitome of viticultural excellence in the Rhône Valley. Famous for its exceptional wines, this appellation owes its renown to the alliance of emblematic grape varieties, such as Syrah and Grenache, grown in terroirs with diverse qualities. The resulting wines are captivating in their complexity, reflecting the richness of the Rhone terroir.
